How to Develop a Website
Many people say that you don't need your own website in order to sell on the internet but I think that it's a whole lot easier if you do because then you can control the content. The problem here is that many people don't know how to develop a website, but actually it's not that hard if you use a logical approach.
If you want to know how to develop a website, you need to have an idea of how you want it to look. A website is a series of pages but probably the most important one is your Home page. This is where most visitors will enter your site and where you need to explain what your site is all about and what they will gain from it.
Start with your colour scheme; try to make it fit in with your subject. For example green text on a white background would be good for a gardening site but one selling Halloween outfits might look good in orange on black. Having said that, be careful of very dark background colours which can be very hard to look at for long.
Next your header image; it should relate to the subject of your website and may be a photograph of your own or one that you have bought. If your header image is the entire width of your site then it always looks good if your site name is incorporated into it somehow, otherwise you'll need to have your site title below the image. Your header image should complement your colour scheme.
Following your site title, you may want an explanatory sentence such as Bridget's Babyware - All your baby's needs from birth to 18 months old.
Decide whether you want your navigation menu across the top or down one side.
Do you want columns on your page? A three column page would typically have some product adverts in the right and left columns or AdSense ads as well as an opt-in form for people to receive your news with your introduction in the centre column.
Do you want all your pages to look the same but with different text content? This is actually a much easier option but it's your choice.
Last of all, the footer; here you can put a copyright notice and the date or other information about your site.
When you're learning how to develop a website, the easiest thing to do is sketch it out using pencil and paper to get a feel for how it will look then you can decide which platform to use and how to host it.
