How to Keep Up Your New Year's Resolutions
At the start of the new year, it can be very easy to make rash decisions about changing your life, such as going to the gym, or eating more healthily, but by mid-January, it can become increasingly difficult to continue with your good intentions, and sometimes, despite your best efforts, it can then become all too easy to just go back to your old ways. So if this sounds like something you do every year with frightening regularity, here are a few tips to help you stick to your goals, no matter what happens.
Start Small
It's all very well saying that you're going to stop eating fatty food from January the 1st, but the harsh reality of it is that suddenly depriving your body of certain foods will make you crave them even more and could do more damage to your body than good. To avoid this cut back on your consumption of certain foods, such as sugar, fast food and ready meals, before cutting them out all together, and you'll find the whole process a lot easier.
Start Slowly
As with dieting, or starting to eat more healthily, you need to start an exercise programme just as carefully, which can be frustrating, especially if you want results fast. But be careful, because taking on too much too soon could result in a painful injury, which could then stop you from exercising again for some time. Many people find that taking up exercising with a friend or relative can be very helpful, and could encourage you to exercise more.
Reward Yourself
With any life changes, there will be ups and downs, you may find yourself craving chocolate one day, or longing to get away from it all when it gets too much. Don't be too hard on yourself, remember that you're working hard, and you will deserve a treat, chocolate is good in moderation and if you want to go on holiday, make that a goal. Book time off work and start searching for cheap flights to somewhere different online, such as flights to Cape Town, you may find that rewarding yourself will feel just as good as all the positive changes you've made in your life so far.
