AutoCAD is a program that engineers use to draft designs for high-precision industrial machines and circuit diagrams. Architects, another AutoCAD
3D Models user group, use the program to design buildings and other 3-D structures. The tools used to create these structures are called modeling tools, and they include basic 3-D objects called primitives. Spheres, boxes, toruses (donuts) and other simple shapes comprise primitives. You can use these objects to create more complex ones, through assembly and shaping. An example of assembly is attaching three slender cylinders to the bottom of a flat, squarish box. This action forms a stool.
Step by step.

Share: Open
AutoCAD and create a rectangle by clicking "Draw," then "Rectangle." Click and drag in the viewport to define the rectangle, then click again to end rectangle creation mode.
Change to a 3-D view so that you can clearly see all three dimensions of the box you're going to make and shape: Click "View," "Visual styles," then "3-D Conceptual." This style displays objects with a simple shading scheme, which enables clear viewing of 3-D objects and
3D Models.
Click "View," "Orbit," then "Constrained Orbit" to enter a 3-D navigation mode for rotating your viewpoint around the rectangle.
Click the mouse, then drag up and left for a short distance. This action moves your viewpoint from directly above the rectangle to a short distance behind it.
Make the rectangle into a box by first clicking any of its edges to select it.
Enter "Extrude" at the command prompt at the bottom of the window, and notice that the rectangle has become a box whose top follows your mouse cursor. Click any screen location to end the extrusion mode. (Extrusion is the term modelers use to refer to expanding a flat surface to a solid one.)
Move, rotate and scale the box in 3-D space, starting with right-clicking the box and selecting "Move." Notice the three-colored tripod that appears. This "gizmo," as AutoCAD's documentation refers to it, lets you move objects along the dimensions you specify, such as the length or width of the box.
Hover your mouse over the "Z" axis of the tripod. When it turns gold, click and drag the axis up or down. Notice the box moves up or down in 3-D space. Experiment with moving the box along the other axes of the tripod, i.e. the "Y" and "X" axes.
Scale the box. Right-click the box again, but select "Scale" from the menu this time. Hover the mouse over the tripod, then click and drag when it turns gold. This will grow or shrink the box.
Complete your tour of the basic 3-D transformations, i.e. move, scale and rotate, by right-clicking the box and choosing "rotate." Click and drag the gizmo to rotate the box.
