How to Learn Self Defense from a Video

Many people are under the false impression that you need to take an actual course in order to learn the ins and outs of self defense

. Although this may have been true years ago, it is no longer the case. In fact, a great percentage of people are choosing to learn from home instead of attending a class. As the world gets busier and busier we have less and less time for these types of things. And while it can seem like a monumental task to enroll in a course, it only takes a few minutes a day to learn at home with a self defense video. The beauty of self defense tactics is that they don't require any past knowledge of martial arts. The moves are created to be simple, yet extremely effective. Therefore, they can be learned by anyone, no matter their background.

If you choose to learn from a self defense video, you obviously won't become the next Jackie Chan. But unless you have an avid interest in martial arts, there is no need to go that far. The average person is content to just learn enough to be able to get them out of a potentially violent situation. And you may be shocked to learn that this takes only a few days. Unlike many other forms of martial arts, simple self defense isn't comprised of fancy take-downs and kicks. It is a series of easy moves that anyone can learn. Much of it is based on using your opponents own body weight against them in order to knock them down. This strategy is especially popular among women who typically tend to be smaller than men.

Learning from a video also has many other advantages. First of all, you get the benefit of having your very own instructor right in your own home. Also, there is no worry of ever falling behind the class because you can always rewind and start from the beginning. This is especially helpful when learning moves that may be a bit trickier. You can go back to any point in the video to learn everything you need to.

Self defense tactics are important for everyone to learn. Criminals don't take holidays which means that every single day that you are out in public, so are they. They are sitting in the shadows just waiting for that perfect prey. But if you know what they are looking for in a victim, you can learn how to make yourself much less appealing to a criminal. First of all, they use the element of surprise to get what they want. They do not want a fight any more than you do. They want to jump in, get what they want and get out before anyone causes a scene and brings attention to them. So if you always look aware and prepared, they will likely pass you by. But in the unfortunate event that you do get attacked, it will be great to have some moves such as the reverse elbow or the claw that you can use to knock them to the ground.
