How to Take Care of Oily Hair

Sebum is a natural hair moisturizer; the overproduction of which causes oily hair

. Though oily hair is caused by oily scalp, using shampoos aren't enough since they only try to help prevent excess oil in the hair itself. If you change your hair care routine, you can reduce the amount of oil in your hair and scalp.

Oily hair problems are easy to cure. Following are some of the more effective ways to naturally cure oily hair.

1. Wash your hair every day and massage the shampoo into your scalp. While massaging, work the shampoo from the root to the tip. Always rinse thoroughly. If you wash daily, it will keep the oil level under control.

2. You should shampoo thoroughly, daily or every other day, according to your hair's oiliness. Choosing the right shampoo for your hair is important. Use a normal or mild shampoo if your hair is a bit oily. Use astringent shampoo to remove unwanted oil, if your hair is very oily.

3. Select a conditioner designed specifically for oily hair and apply it to the tips of the hair, avoiding the scalp. This nurtures your hair without causing it to produce more oil.

4. Add essential oils to your regular shampoo for treating the scalp and hair. Rosemary, lemon, lavender, eucalyptus and cypress are some oils that can help you out. You need to add a few drops of oil to your shampoo and massage into the hair and scalp for a few minutes before rinsing out with cool water.

5. Try reducing the amount that you brush your hair. While doing this, keep the brush away from the scalp so that you don't spread additional oil to the rest of your hair.

Additional tips:

To improve the condition of your oily hair, include plenty of water and fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.

If your hair is very oily, you are required to skip Step 3.

Never over-shampoo your scalp. If you do this, your scalp will produce more sebum, making the problem worse.
