If you are able to wake up every morning and put in a full and good days work, you take good health for granted. It is because of that believe that we do not care for our health until we get sick. It is said that we care more for our cars than we do for our selves. Otherwise how can one explain why we will dutifully maintain our cars but fail to submit ourselves to an annual medical checkup.How we found outMy wife and I are not different from the average Jones. We work hard to pay bills and find money for mortgage and pay for the education of our two children. Our health had been good and because of that we did not do our medicals on an annual basis. My wife did not take annual medical check up serously prior to the diagnosis of breast cancer in June 2004. As you will imagine, the news was extremely devastating for us as we had both enjoyed excellent health prior this diagnosis. We immediately researched and assembled all the information we could fine for breast cancer. In view of my science background, I was able to understand the mass of literature we had assembled. I discovered that in addition to orthodox medical treatment of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, that an alternative approach to medical intervention was available to patients. This form of treatment has shown a lot of promise and infact shown significant success in treatment of the disease. This treatment adopts a holistic approach to treatment. Life style changes which included diet changes and a strict excercise regime were at the core of my wife's treatment. There is a lot of evidence to support the fact that diet and weight management are key to fighting cancer. You can achieve an arrest and sometimes revisal of the disease with only this intervention. Again this was our experience in our fight to reverse my wife's cancer.The growing Popularity of complementary TherapiesAlmost six million people in the UK where we live, use complementary therapies every year. In 2007, complementary therapy users spent about 190 million pounds sterling. . Between 2002 and 2007, sales in alternative therapy products grew by 30% and the figure is expected to grow to over 250 million pounds by 2011. It is my believe that a similar approach has been adopted in the EU and the US. The Far East countries, of Japan and China have always adopted the alternative therapy as their main approach to health care delivery.Why I Wrote This ArticleI want to stress that this is neither a promotional nor review article. We are simply shareing with the public the approach we adopted to treat my wife's breast cancer. By the way, she is very well and her prognosis is excellent. Doctors never say your cancer is cured . they say you are in remission. They say it is in remission. I am not joining the controversy Again I want to stress that this article is not to compare the different treatment methods. The side effects of conventional medical treatment is as devastating as the cancer itself. Sometimes the treatment kills the patient rather than the disease. The significant side effects of conventional treatment are well documented. On the other hand I recognize that complementary and alternative therapies are not based on mainstream scientifically proven methods. Some are quite closely allied to conventional medicine and are professionally organized and regulated, while others are either self-regulating or are not regulated.We Remain PositiveI am not qualified to undertake a professional medical evaluation on the controversy between both approaches .All I have done is to confirm to my readers that my wife used exclusively alternative therapy to fight her cancer. She was not subjected to what is referred to as standard operating procedure. Six years after she is having a good quality of life .We remain positive that my wife will remain healthy and well as we continue to adopt our preference for alternative therapy .
