In the past six months of writing this article, the resurgent of advertising on face book has dramatically changed the internet community in a big way. In the past, face book was considered just a place where people gathered to connect with friends and family.

Although that has largely remained the same, the use of face book to advertise a business is becoming one of the best places to advertise. Google is still the behemoth and best place when it comes to advertising your business; however, with the new rules instituted by Google, face book is becoming the place of choice for many.

Google business model, when used correctly, still generates highly targeted leads that are looking to buy something. The difference between the two is that face book advertising cost structure is about 30 percent cheaper than Google advertising platform.

I will summarize some basics of face book that many people may not be a where of. To advertise on face book the cost of advertising averages between .30-.60 a click. On face book there is no competition and quality leads can be found by using the right keywords.

How to maintain compliant ads:

The ads must be engaging but not to fancy or slick.

The ads cannot be too shocking or offensive.

The ads must be compelling and conservative.

The ads must contain an image.

The image must contain words along side the image.

How to write great ads:

The headlines should be of a question base origin.

The images need to tell a story or grab the customer's attention.

The more an advertiser smiles is attractive to his customers.

The use of text with the image is a great attention grabber.

Advertiser must insure that the promise he makes is supported by the ad.

The use of upper and lower case alphabets in the ad title is a good attention grabber.

Ads to avoid writing:

The advertiser must avoid slang or jargon in his ads.

The advertiser must write complete thoughts or sentences.

The advertiser must avoid offensive language, abbreviations and symbols.

Bidding and Budgets:

Face book, as mention before, is not like Google Adwords. When setting up an ad bid, make the total daily ad spend be at least $50.00 a day or less per click not impressions. Unlike Google, there is no need to inflate the budget. A daily $50.00 ad spend is on average the most that an advertiser will need to spend per day.

When setting the budget for what an advertiser is willing to spend per click, it is a good idea to bid half of the recommended amount and then increase that limit after 2 to 3 days.

For example, if face book recommends that cost per click is .50, I recommend spending half (.25) that amount per click for 2 or 3 days and analyze your Return on Investment (ROI).

Although face book allows advertising, face book is still a social media site and must be treated as such. Therefore, all ads must be compelling and all images and text must be congruent and relevant to the user.

Moreover, the customer has the ability to vote on whether he/she likes the ad. If enough customers are unhappy with the ad, an advertiser can be suspended from face book until he fixes the advertisement.

My recommendation in avoiding a negative vote by the user is not having the customer go straight from an ad to a landing page especially if that landing page does not give great value. Great value would imply less selling but more value of knowledge. An instructional video would be an example of great value.

How to design ads:

Advertisers should track their destination web page by using a tracking code.


Advertisers should separate their landing page with videos.

When writing the title, it is a good idea to use upper and lower case alphabets.

The body of the text must be grammatically correct.

Advertisers should not target every country in the world.
