How can I maximize battery performance?

There are several ways to increase the performance and life of your Oxygen Concentrator battery.

1. Break in New Batteries

New batteries are basically "dead batteries" when they arrive at your home. Just like any other a new cell phone battery or a laptop battery, the batteries start at uncharged. This just means you need to fully charge them before you use them. Once you receive your new battery, leave it plugged in for a twelve hour period to ensure that it is fully charged. We recommend that you fully charge your battery then use it until it "dies," then fully charge it again. Do this for 2 to 4 cycles to prime the battery to reach its maximum-rated capacity.

2. Keep Your Batteries Clean

Portable Oxygen Concentrators were designed to be traveled with, so that means Concentrators cars, airplanes, in outdoor elements; this means the machine and battery will get dirty from time to time. Over the life of the battery, they will collect dirt and dust. Clean dirty battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. This helps maintain a good connection between the battery and the portable device.

3. Exercise Your Battery

Don't leave batteries dormant for long periods of time. Just like a car battery, the battery needs to be exercised to continue the charge. We recommend using your battery at least once every 2 to 3 weeks. If a battery hasn't been used for a long time, re-perform the new battery break-in procedure described above.

4. Battery Storage

If you don't plan on using your battery for a month or more, store it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. NiCad, NiMH and Li-Ion batteries will self-discharge during storage; remember to break them in before use.

5. AC Adaptor

If possible, use the AC adaptor and disconnect the battery and take it out of the device. This saves the battery for when you really need it - when there is no available outlet. This will drastically increase your lifetime of the device. Unfortunately some devices do not allow you to remove the battery.
