HOW TO MOVE AN UPRIGHT PIANO
Moving a piano means moving a very heavy instrument from one home, down stairs, into the moving truck, securing it, and then delivering to its destination which usually means more stairsWHEW. Ideally, the piano remains upright and stays in tune throughout the process. It is also important to use moving blankets to pad the piano before the moving process to avoid scratching the finish on the piano or on other items in the path of the piano.
Most upright pianos, no matter what style, are extremely heavy and weigh anywhere from 300 lbs to upward of 900 lbs for some tall backed upright player piano's.
A piano is moved from one site to another for any number of reasons: the owner may be moving to a new home; the piano could be sold; or the owner thinks the piano would look better in another setting. Moving a piano can affect the people who are doing the actual move because they could easily be injured by the object's weight. Somebody's back can be hurt, or body parts can be crushed by a moving piano. Unless you or somebody in your group is a professional Piano mover, we do not recommend attempting the move before you consult a professional moving company. Feel free to contact

Upright piano moving within a home takes almost no time, assuming the piano is being moved to a different room on the same floor. Placing the piano on a four wheeled dolly with rubber wheels is best as attempting to roll the piano on its own casters will usually result in a dented or badly scratched floor. In home piano moves from one floor to another can be very difficult, depending on the number and grade of stairs. Depending on the width of the stairs, some upright piano's can be move with 2 or 4 men (depending on the model). If the homes stairs are narrow, using a set of weight rated shoulder straps to maneuver the piano up a tight stair well is essential. Simply put on shoulder straps and run the joining strap under the piano, cinch slack tight and lift with your legs. The piano may seem unstable at first but applying pressure on the piano by extending your arms out will help balance the piano.
Other equipment can be used such as piano dollies, piano boards, caster and or more manpower depending if the space allows. We hope this article was helpful and again please feel free to contact Liberty Bell Moving for all your piano moving needs.
