HPs 2100 line of LaserJet printers includes four different personal monochrome laser

models that operate at 10 pages per minute and have similar hardware to each other, but have different software support packages included with the devices. The base model HP LaserJet 2100 comes suited for most print applications, while other models also support features such as Post Script, and Trellix software.

The HP LaserJet 2100tn version supports Post Script, and also includes an HP Jetdirect 600 N printer server card, while the HP LaserJet 2100m also supports Post Script and comes with a memory boost The HP LaserJet 2100xi includes a bonus Trellix software package. Other than these small differences, these aging printers operate on the same level, with the 2100m handling imagery slightly better due to the memory increase.

Standard memory for the HP LaserJet 2100 series is either 4 MBs or 8 MBs depending on the particular model, and can be upgraded to a maximum of either 40 MBs or 52 MBs, also depending on the model. Its duty cycle is quite high, ranking at 15,000 pages per month, meaning, even at 10 pages per minute, the device could potentially produce a lot of product, if not at a slow pace.

This pre-Bluetooth device supports IR or infrared printing for wireless applications and use with older PDAs that supported the feature. Its paper handling abilities are fairly substantial, and also upgradable. A 250 sheet adjustable tray, along with a 100 sheet multipurpose tray, comes standard, and an optional 250 sheet tray is available for paper storage expansion.

The HP LaserJet 2100 also has the strange feature of having both a top output bin for printing face down, and a rear output bin for printing face up. Three dual in line memory module DIMM slots are incorporated into the hardware, as well as Enhanced Input Output EIO cards and slots. No USB port is present on the device, as only a Parallel port and Local Talk port are available, though the device is IrDA compliant. The HP LaserJet 2100 supports custom media sizes from the size of an index card (3 x 5 inches) up to the size of legal sized paper (8.5 x 14 inches).

While the LaserJet 2100 is extremely dated, it still holds up to todays standards in many fashions, and is worth taking a look at for those interested, due to the features present in it that you dont see too often, such as special toner cartridges for printing checks, which are still available today.
