Smartphone & tablet makers HTC & Sharp have unveiled devices featuring next generation screens.
HTC unveiled the J Butterfly Phone which has a 5 display offering an industry leading 440 pixels per inch. The new display provides users with a higher resolution of up to 40% which means higher quality photos & video compared to competitors Apple, Samsung & Nokia.
Sharp revealed the new Aquos Pad Tablet which is the 1st device to take advantage of IGZO technology. IGZO stands for Indium, Gallium, Zinc Oxide & has 40 times the electron mobility than that of an Liquid crystal display screen allowing for smaller pixels for superior screen resolution as well as a high reaction speed. IGZO technology is also more eco-friendly delivering more output but using much less power. According to Sharp the Aquos tablet can last 2 & a half times longer than its predecessor.
The Aquos only has a seven screen but Sharp have confirmed that the tablet is going to be available in ten & thirty two versions competing with the Samsung Galaxy Tab & the iPad 3. The tablet will go on sale in Japan in December.
The J Butterfly Phone is going to be powered by Android and will go on sale in Japan in December. HTC are advertising the screen size & resolution to attempt to stand out in a crowded cellphone market that is dominated by Samsung & Apple.
New Releases
The announcements from HTC and Sharp come only days after Apple sent out invitations to the launch of the iPad mini & just a week before Microsoft will release their first tablet, Surface.
The Microsoft tablet will go on sale next Thursday the day before Windows eight will be released. The tablet will only be available online through the Microsoft shop or in dedicated Microsoft pop up shops. With excitement at fever pitch for both of these products it will be interesting to see if Surface sinks or swims.
Apple are expected to announce the release of the iPad mini on the 23rd October. Earlier this week Apple distributed invites to their latest special event. Rumours suggest that Apple will announce the iPad mini as well as a slimmer iMac & Mac Mini.
With the build up to Xmas well under way each firm is eager to capitalise on increased consumer demand. With a lot of competing tablets especially for Android & Windows screen quality is turning out to be a USP for makers. A lot of consumers use their tablet for viewing videos so picture quality is important.
