Huangpu Park - Exploring Shanghais Oldest Public Green Space

One of the must-see highlights when on a visit to the Paris of the East

, Shanghais Huangpu Park is a breathtaking stretch of greenery with an illustrious legacy to match. As the citys oldest public park this triangular shaped point of interest also enjoys the honour of being Shanghais smallest parkland as well. Ideally located on the northern reaches of The Bund this picturesque leisure space is frequented by locals and tourists alike who wish to experience the rich cultural history of the venue as well as its multifaceted attractions.

Dubbed the official park of the city of Shanghai, this quaint patch of nature on Zhongshandongyi Road links with the Suzhou River to the north, its namesake river Huangpu to the east and features the plant life of the Bund visible to the south. Constructed as far back as 1886, the garden cum parkland displays features of a European garden despite having evolved through the centuries to become a premier venue for nature lovers and history buffs alike. One of the key highlights here is of course the Shanghai Monument to the People's Heroes which was built to honour Chinese patriots that defeated foreign occupation to win sovereignty. Another point of interest at Huangpu Park is of course the Bund Historic Museum where guests can understand the unique heritage of the Bund and its evolution over the decades.

A variety of sculptures and statues are also scattered across the park of which the Pujiang Tide is a true wonder. Larger than life in scale and made in bronze, the statute depicts a labourer battling sea waves denoting the unrelenting strength and determination of the working class people of the country and their contribution to Chinas rapid growth. A series of sculptures in granite also grace the park and includes seven statues in total depicting 97 social pioneers. Built as a tribute to those who fought in Shanghai battles during 1840 and the 1940s, the 120m long, 3.8m tall artistic renderings in granite are encircled in floral rings as well.

Travellers on the lookout for luxurious Shanghai serviced apartments should look no further than Citadines Jinqiao Shanghai. Offering resplendent quarters with modern amenities, this is one service apartment Shanghai counts among its best accommodation options for long stay visitors.
