Huawei Fusion 2 - A Powerful Little Phone With One Small Difference
Prepaid phones have been growing in popularity for some time
. The idea being that you buy the phone directly at first, then use up the credit over time, without being tied into a phone contract. You will however, still be locked to just that network - but you wont have to pay a premium for the phone in the first place.
The Fusion 2 was released at the same time as AT&T spoke about the Sony Xperia TL (the Skyfall phone). Its being built solely for purchase through AT&T, but obviously that doesnt mean that the phone can only be used on that network. Once used up, you can run-away from AT&T and get the Fusion 2 unlocked. This will allow you to use any other network you want, in case you liked the phone but didnt want to be restricted to just AT&T.
The phone itself is pretty impressive, especially for an entry level smartphone. It has Android as default, although it is only 2.3 Gingerbread, but that is the most favoured operating system on all mobile phones at the moment, so it must have some merit. It also impressively has 3G, but doesnt quite yet make the grade for 4G. This allows the phone to receive data at high speeds, but not enough yet to rival the average home broadband (which 4G does).
There is an aspect of the phone that Im not too impressed by. That is the small 3.5 inch screen. Its the same size as the first iPhone, but phone users have moved on drastically since then, and all the demand has been around bigger phones, able to display more information at once. This demand has came about because as mobile phones have improved at being able to display the Internet, users have changed how and where they use it. With more and more people are viewing the Internet on a phone whilst sitting on their sofa, as opposed to being on a desktop PC, people have started shopping using them as well, which requires a bigger screen to do well. Therefore, I am surprised that Huawei havent designed the Fusion 2 with at least a 4.0 inch screen, as that is what most people want now.
Processor wise, the Fusion 2 can hold its own, but it isnt going to make headlines - as you would expect. It has a dual core 800MHz processor, with 512MB of RAM to supplement it. Thats pretty good and more than enough for Gingerbread to run without any problems whatsoever. Im also extremely impressed by the RAM - as most phones, like the HTC One X, has only double that, and is one of the most expensive phones on the market.
As a whole, the phone is very impressive, especially for the price point that it serves. Its a shame about the phones screen size, as I think it would appeal to a lot more people if it were slightly bigger. It is a good looking phone as it is, even reminding me of one of the phones of the moment in the Google Nexus 4, and I think it will do well for Huawei. They certainly are a company on their way up at the moment, and if they can continue their success from the Ascend G300, then theyll be amongst the top sellers soon enough.
