The Hunter region, commonly known as Hunter Valley, belongs to New South Wales. It extends from approximately 120 km (75 miles) to 310 km (193 miles) north of Sydney, Australia with an approximate population of 645,395 people. The valley contains the Hunter River and its tributaries with areas to north and south. The Hunter is one the largest river valleys on the New South Wales coast, and most commonly known for its wineries and coal industry.
