Hyundai Exceeds Expectations

Hyundai along with the likes of Kia and Fiat are a few examples of small economical car manufacturers that have done well in 2010

. 2009 saw the peak of the recession, car buyers were staying out of the market and only dipping in with scrappage scheme allowances.

2009 car sales figures were inflated by the government backed scrappage scheme, 2010 saw the scheme come to an end. So when doing year on year comparisons it should be of no surprise if 2010 sales are down on 2009. This has not necessarily been the case, many manufacturers have reported increased sales in 2010 compared to 2009, Saab even reported a 220% increase for November 2010 VS November 2009.

Hyundai has beaten its predicted sales figures for 2010 with 5 weeks to spare; it reported in November that 57,391 units have already been sold in the UK beating last years total of 56,927. Hyundai is expecting to sell 62,000 units in the UK before the years ends, that would mean a 9% increase year on year, which is a very impressive effort considering the volatile market.

Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai's managing director, said: "Whilst 2009 was a great year for Hyundai in the UK, 2010 is even better.

Scrappage gave the franchise a boost and catapulted it into people's awareness. 2010 proves that we are here to stay.Considering that last year Hyundai enjoyed nine months of scrappage and this year only three months, this is an outstanding result."

Hyundai reported that its best seller continues to be the Hyundai i10, the city car. A total of 22,208 i10 units were sold, followed by the Hyundai i30 with 14,302 and the Hyundai i20 with 12,113.Used Hyundai London dealers have also reported that used Hyundai sales continue to grow year on year.
