Okay I know what you're thinking, I want to get rid of my nightmares. But make no mistake because you can. Everyone deserves a good night's rest but often times our nights aren't so good especially when it's filled with horrible nightmares. Nightmares can stem from anxiety, depression and stress. A hard day of work can lead to a hard time catching up on your Z's. Taking the proper steps by identifying what causes your stress, switching up your sleeping habits, seeking therapy or resorting to medication are all ways to get rid of nightmares.

Remove the problems that are removable. Discover what it is has you stressing and uneasy. Ask yourself if the problem appear in my sleep. If so identify what it is that bothers you the most with this crisis. Lots of times very difficult things experienced in an individual's life can result to causing trauma which can slowly grow into nightmares. If a person is stressed at work, home or even financially this may haunt them sometimes as well converting into a bad dream. Nightmares can bring about some very disappointing feelings such as anger, fear, guilt and sadness. The brain is always working, no matter what it is always pumping blood and functioning, so even when you are asleep the brain is doing is job and sometimes it overworks and the ending result can be a horrible nightmare. Whether realized or not the brain is always aware of what it is that is going on, so this is why it's very important to locate the root of the problem and find a solution.

Cut back on the caffeine. If caffeine is a daily ritual you may want to consider finding a substitute. This power enhancement is sure to increase the chances of nightmares. The closing of the day brings upon anxiety once caffeine has left the system. When body crashes, and is prepared to rest at night it you are prone to having a bad dream because the brain still working trying to catch up with the body. Do not eat heavy meals before sleeping. Eating a heavy meal promotes the brain to work overtime. While you are asleep the brain is concentrating on breaking down food that has entered your digestive system. The posture you are asleep in will also have an effect on what happens once you close your eyes. Believe it r not the position you sleep in can affect whether or not you will get rest.

Therapy is an excellent way to get over this problem. Speaking to a professional can help rid nightmares. A special type of therapy practiced at the University of Mexico is called, Imagery Rehearsal Therapy. This happens when the client is awake and faced with the issue that occurs in their dreams. Being awake give them the opportunity to handle the problem with a clear and conscious mind. This allows the nightmare to be less intimidating and easier for the matter to be addressed.

Topiramate, nefazodone, and gabapentin are all medications that require seeking the advice of medical doctor. There are limited medicines for curing nightmares however, the medicines mentioned have been used and been helpful to those suffering from PTSD (POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER) Medications can be a last resort if therapy or options at home haven't been useful in curing bad dreams.

Nevertheless, nightmares can be gone as long as you take the appropriate steps of getting rid of them. It's best to always be honest with yourself and evaluate the issues that may be discomforting to you and then work through them. Pay close attention to your eating habits as well as sleeping position.
