"I cheated on my wife," is one thing no man ever wants to hear himself saying. Admitting that you were unfaithful is heart wrenching. You know how deeply it has hurt your wife and how badly it has damaged your marriage. You aren't ready to walk away from your spouse though. You do truly love her and you'd do anything you could to erase your indiscretion so your marriage could be as close as it once was. With the right approach and a lot of hard work you can not only get your wife to forgive you but you two can have a deeply satisfying and connected relationship.

Since your wife has discovered your affair or from the moment you confessed it, you've probably been dealing with a very emotional partner. It's incredibly painful for any woman to realize that they man they loved was intimate with someone else. It not only undermines her faith in your love for her but it makes her question her own appeal as a woman. You must allow her to move through her emotions at her own pace. You have to be patient and understanding whether she's crying, angry or just quiet.

Allow her open access to you at all times. One problem that many couples face after infidelity is rebuilding the trust. They find it almost impossible unless they're both completely committed to it. Your wife is going to doubt you when you tell her that you're working late or hanging out with your friends. That's why it's essential that you encourage her to call you whenever the need strikes her. Make it clear to everyone around you that your wife is your number one priority and she comes before them.

It goes without saying that in order to make your marriage succeed, the other woman must no longer be a part of your life. You have to cut off all contact with her and you must be able to honestly tell your wife that you have. In order to prove this point it's important that your wife feels comfortable asking to see your cell phone or your email messages. Although you may feel this is an invasion of privacy, your marriage is at stake and nothing should be more important than that at this point.

Keep reassuring your wife, through your words and actions, just how much you do love her. She needs to know that you are devoted to her, and only her. Make that your mission in life and she'll start to feel it. Remember, that many marriages that have been rocked by infidelity do go on to become more satisfying than they were before. There's no reason that can't be your marriage too.
