I Want Good Quality Television

Television has truly changed so much over the years and I think that we

, as a society, have changed along with it. I believe that our country's morals have been worn down over the years and it is not a big shock for me to say this. The evidence is clear. Just look at what it on television in the year 2009 compared to what was on television in the year 1960.

The questions I ask myself is who causes the changes? Do we change our values because of the things we are exposed to on television? These things are accepted by many to be normal and part of our everyday life. In reality, the people portrayed on these modern television shows are very far from normal.

The only thing that can be the answer for me is that the shows on television and us as a people are two factors in a cycle, continually affecting each other. Our society affects the type of television shows that are popular and are put on the air while the material on television continually tries to push the envelope further than before and our society accepts these changes a little at a time.

Occasionally, a show will go too far and our society stands up, is outraged and demands that the show be taken off the air. This does not happen very often sadly enough and we find that we are letting little things slip past us because the rest of the television show is pretty good.

I encourage us all to take a stand and get back to the type of television shows that were entertaining for the right reasons, the kinds of shows that the whole family could sit down and watch together. There were so many great game shows back then and I feel like our society isn't as entertained by the classic game shows on television today.

Modern versions of games shows are created to be nothing, but drama like "Big Brother" and "Survivor." Back then, we had variety shows like the "Dean Martin Show" and the "Carol Burnett Show." These shows and many others gave us a chance to see many celebrities out of their element having fun and putting on spectacular musical numbers.

These days we have "Saturday Night Live" which unfortunately uses crude humor and foul language to spread the laughter around. I wish that we had shows on television today like the "Dean Martin Show" so that I could laugh and be entertained in a way that is not offensive to anyone.
