IIPM B-School : DNA b-school awards for premier institutes

The who's who of management education attended the DNA & Stars of the Industry group's

Innovative B-School Awards ceremony held on Friday at Taj Land's End Hotel in Bandra. Of the 2,400 b-schools in the country, 120 institutes were short-listed and 40 took away awards under various categories. The chief guest, prime minister of Bhutan Jigme Thinley, gave away the awards at a function organised by the event management company Fun and Joy at Work.

Premier b-schools, such as the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (Nitie), Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS University), Indira Group of Institutes, Foundation for Liberal and Management Education (Flame) and the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) were awarded for innovative teaching methodology.

Dr Rajan Saxena, vice chancellor of NMIMS University, was conferred the Hall of Fame award in individual capacity. "Since a decade, there have been tremendous changes in b-schools and innovation has played a key role in determining the leaders. I am grateful for the recognition accorded to me," he said.

Professor Indira Parikh, president of Flame, received the Best Teacher of the Decade award. "These accolades make me feel more committed to my profession and passionate to the cause of teaching," she said.

The director of one of the city's premier management institutes, Welingkar Institute of Management, Development and Research, Dr Uday Salunkhe, received the coveted Best Director Award, while the B-School Leadership Award was shared by Punjab College of Technical Education, Ludhiana, and Flame, Pune. "We started our institute a decade ago, and it is a great feeling to be recognised among the best b-schools in such a short time," said Harpreet Kang, deputy dean of PCTE.

According to Dr RL Bhatia, CEO of Fun and Joy at Work, these awards have been instituted to encourage institutes to think out of the box. "There are several who follow the well-trodden path, but very few carve out their own route and make a contribution to the society. This is our way of honouring such people," he said.
