Identifying The Perfect Place To Get Your New Ferret
Before you adopt a new ferret you have to keep a few things in mind
, one of which is the place that you are getting him from. Once you have decided on the right ferret you will want to do a little more research on the establishment where you will get him. Perhaps you already know the store or place where you are going for your
new ferret but in case this is the first time you have considered it I have jotted down a few suggestions that I hope will provide some guidance: Ferret shelters Pet stores Private breeders And Classified ads placed among newspapers You might also discover that the kind of place youre going to will depend largely in part to the kind of ferret you want. For instance, if you are a first time ferret parent then it might be beneficial for you to get an older adult instead of a kit. Kits require much more time and patience to make sure they are well behaved; whereas, an older ferret might not take as much training. When you get an older ferret, he probably has already been trained and socialized so this would be one less concern for you. One other benefit into getting an older ferret is that he will no doubt become acclimated to his new home quicker so it may easier on the entire household initially. Most shelters will spend more one on one time with the fuzzies than the larger pet stores will and they are generally more knowledgeable regarding their care because they are more specialized in dealing with these kinds of animals. Problem areas such as troubling personality behaviors can be rectified early alleviating future frustrations on your behalf. The shelter will be able to change such attitudes drastically and this will be one less problem you will have to address. By now, you are no doubt becoming quite familiar with what to look for in your
new ferret once you have made the decision to get one. The following list isnt all inclusive; however, I hope it helps you in determining what to look for before take the plunge. You will want to look for: A glossy and soft coat Clear eyes Clean teeth Clean ears Healthy skin Trimmed nails An active and prying attitude That he is always alert to his surroundings Just a quick word of caution, do not select any ferret with obvious health issues. Even simple ones like runny ears and noses. Also be aware of animals that are thriving in a filthy dirty cage too. Although you might think that their situations are heartbreaking and you might want to do something so you could prevent him from suffering in such conditions, you need to be very cautious in these situations. A dirty cage is a bastion for unwanted germs and parasites and the little guy may be seriously infected. It is always better to be safe than to be sorry for your purchase and it will prevent buyers remorse. In this regard it is always best to go for a pet which appears clean and healthy.
