Identity Theft Protection + A Legal Plan Covers It All

We hear from the news media about identity theft and data breaches almost daily. Most of this news we only hear about on a national or local level, however you can bet that this is going on around the world. With all of the places that your personal identity information is stored today, there is no way anyone can know where it's kept much less guard them all. More and more identity theft is occurring on a larger scale through data breaches of major companies that don't even know they've been hacked, or aren't admitting to it. PHOENIX (AP) Maricopa County sheriff's deputies say they've arrested 26 people so far in a search of several Pei Wei restaurants for identity theft suspects. Deputies arrested six of 12 employees at one restaurant Friday in Phoenix. Other arrests were made at restaurants in Fountain Hills, Tempe and the corporate office in Scottsdale.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio says his office received an anonymous tip six months ago about possible ID thefts. He says there may be as many as 121 potential suspects of ID theft working for Pei Wei. Authorities say the suspects are accused of using the identity of children or deceased people.

According to a recent report in the Arizona Republic, Tempe police seized more than 2,000 fake ID's in 2010 in their effort to crack down on underage drinking. It's one thing to receive a misdemeanor "Minor in Consumption" charge, the typical citation for underage drinkers, but it's quite another to be charged with the much more serious violation of Identify Theft and Impersonation as the result of using a fake ID.

(Springfield, MO) - More than 6,000 Missouri State University students have had their social security numbers compromised. School officials said Thursday that the university learned of an internal security breach on February 22, 2011. The breach affects 6,030 College of Education students, who were notified of the incident.

Being pro-active is every persons responsibility to guard against this crime.
