Ieee-sa Partnering With Industry And Educational Institutions In India Through Corporate Advisory Gr
India, March 6, 2012: IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA)
, globally recognized standards setting body within IEEE that has been playing an increased role in Smart Grid Awareness and implementation in India over the last few years,
Once again IEEE SA is demonstrating its commitment to India by choosing to host the CAG meeting from March 6th to March 9th, 2012 in Bangalore and Delhi.
IEEE works with leading organizations in India and around the world to collaborate on smart grid standards development. The CAG team will be visiting corporate like IBM India, Wipro, Tejas, Sasken, L&T, HCL Technologies, etc along with campus like IIM in Bangalore. In Delhi they would be visiting National Thermal Power Corporation, Power Grid, BIS. The team will also be conducting design automation Workshop in Bangalore. IEEE SA with this visit to India reinforces its commitment to India.
IEEE-SA partnering with Industry and educational institutions in India through CAG for furthering the awareness and adoption of smart grid in the region. The primary purpose of the CAG trip to India is to outreach directly to India-based companies, focusing on the field of power, communications and information technology, to solicit their interest and participation in IEEE standards projects. A secondary goal is to follow up on necessary return visits to key organizations visited on previous governance trips to India and to continue building relationships. A tertiary goal is to follow up with universities in India.
To address the complexity and the diverse demands across the smart grid markets, globally relevant technology standards are necessary for interoperability. IEEE today has a portfolio of more than 900 active standards and more than 500 standards under development that span the technology spectrum, including more than 100 active standards or standards in development specifically related to the smart grid.
IEEE-SAs participation in outreach programs follows the resounding success achieved by the organization and its India SIG (Standards Interest Group) in 2011 in increasing Smart Grid awareness and facilitating faster progress towards implementation in the country. IEEE-SA conducted a series of Smart Grid workshops in the last year, besides introduction of some of the most important Smart Grid standards such as the IEEE 2030TM for interoperability, IEEE 1701 TM and IEEE 1702 TM advanced Smart Metering standards, IEEE 1902 TM for Broadband over Power Line, and IEEE 1547 TM guideline for deployment of Micro Grids.
Apart from company outreach program, we are having the workshop on EDA or VLSI, added Srikanth Chandrasekaran, Chairperson of IEEE-SA India SIG and the Smart Grid Workgroup in India IEEE-SA.
About CORPORATE ADVISORY GROUP (CAG): The CAG serves as an advisory body to IEEE-SA corporate members and to the IEEE-SA BOG. It procures industry input concerning the IEEE standards process and provides strategic direction and recommendations to the BOG. The committee strives to represent a broad spectrum of industry interests and global perspectives.
About the IEEE Standards Association: The IEEE Standards Association, a globally recognized standards-setting body within IEEE, develops consensus standards through an open process that engages industry and brings together a broad stakeholder community. IEEE standards set specifications and best practices based on current scientific and technological knowledge. The IEEE-SA has a portfolio of over 900 active standards and more than 500 standards under development. For more information visit http://standards.ieee.org/.
