Ottawa Ready To Welcome More Migrants, Says Canadian Minister
In a positive development, the Canadian immigration minister has declared that the
nation is ready to permit an increased number of migrants to arrive, stay and do jobs on the soils of the Maple Country. Jason Kenney, the minister, was however quick to add that the said decision depends on the economic outcomes for the overseas people turning up on the Canadian shores.
He continued that the overall income generated by the migrants must be equal to their Canadian counterparts. Only in such a scenario, he reportedly said Ottawa would throw its lot behind boosting the yearly immigration levels of the nation.
Some experts and observers however claim that in the backdrop of the overall figures for the past few years, it appears doubtful if the
migrants to Canada would be in a position to generate a fairly good income post shifting to the country.
The minister further said that the government has no reservations whatsoever in boosting the overall levels of immigration. The same becomes clear in the backdrop of the recent launch of public consultations seeking the opinion of the citizens of Canada and stakeholders on the issue of yearly levels of immigration, besides the composition of the overall immigration intake.
It needs to be mentioned here that several experts on the issue have been repeatedly urging the government to hike the present levels of economic immigration and make it 400,000 per annum. Presently, it is 250,000 per annum. They have said that doing the same will prove pivotal in positively addressing the issue of skills scarcity in the coming years.
Even as the minister approved the proposal of hiking the yearly intake of
immigration, he reportedly observed that the only issue remains the incapability of the migrants to generate a nice income in the country. Kenney added that the moment the economic outcomes of immigrants arriving in the nation suggest improvements, Ottawa will increase its yearly intake of the overseas people.
The minister continued that the high rate of unemployment in the Maple Country is another issue which needs to be addressed positively even as the same is equally true for new entrants, in addition to those migrants living in the country for some time now.
Kenney added that prior to the nation permits more of them to arrive and do jobs in the nation the rate of joblessness plaguing the overseas people has to head south. The minister signed off saying that the migrants must be suitably equipped with expertise, the demand for which could be high in the country.
