Importance Of A Siren In Emergency Situations

A Siren is an essential alarm device in many establishments

, automobiles and almost anything that requires signaling and warning. This device is a very critical most especially for emergency situations. Automobiles like ambulances, fire trucks and police cars utilize a siren as a signal to people to move out of the way and be on alert about some danger. In some places, a siren is also used as a warning signal to signify a natural disaster such as tornados. This makes the people prepared, informed and ready to take action in accordance to the situations.

Let us take an example of a fire in the middle of the city. When the fire breaks, the fire truck releases an alarm to get the right of way. It is undeniably loud and it has a distinct sound especially for emergency situations. When the fire truck receives the signal, other various services come in just like the ambulance. They also use a siren to inform road users to give it the right of way because there is an emergency that has to be addressed quickly. Let us say that the cause of fire is arson and the witnesses saw a person doing it. The police arrive at the scene no matter what the case is, and because the traffic is intense, the police needs to use the siren as a signal to drivers to pave way for the police to get to the scene.

There is another scenario. Say there is a runaway criminal driving away fast. The police needs to approach them as soon as possible and they can call for backup, using lights and a siren, they pursue the criminal. The sound of a siren is quite uncomfortable to listen to and in a way it gives the police officer an edge over the crook. The siren can serve as a signaling device also to tell others that there is something happening in the area and they need to move on the side or stay out of the danger.

A siren is a very effective signaling and alarm device because of the sound it produces. The sound can resonate depending on the amount of power that the siren has. Most of the time it can get really annoying especially for residential areas but it is part of the job and if it requires using the siren then there is no stopping an officer from doing so. In matters of emergency or life and death, the cooperation of the road users is of the utmost importance. The siren is started and people should move on the side so that the person in critical condition can get medical attention soonest.

A siren is available in various forms and depending on the various situations, responsible use of a siren will enable an official or an emergency vehicle to always be given the right of way. It is unethical to use it for personal advantage so responsible use is essential all the time. A siren can be used commercially as a car alarm and it can also be used as bad weather warning in tornado affected zones.
