Cattle farming is not a new practice. It started in the early days of human civilization, when people knew about importance about the cattle rearing. People started keeping livestocks in an enclosed area usually made of bamboo sticks and other materials. The main purpose of cattle farming for the primitive people is to get fresh meat and milk. With the passage of time, people started using cattle like cows, buffaloes in their other domestic works such as cultivation and carrying carts. In the modern days, people keep cattle in the large farm houses. To keep farm animals in the healthy and stout condition, special type of animal food called fodder is given to these animals. The feed for most livestocks is made of dry grass and straws of food grains. These dry grass and straws are chopped into small pieces and then given to farm animals.

People, in the present days, keep cattle for getting fresh meat, eggs, wool and milk. Different farm animals have their own specific uses for the human being. Cows and buffaloes are mostly used by the individuals in the agricultural lands to plough lands. These animals are also used to pull bullock carts and other vehicles. Likewise cows and buffaloes, horses are also used by the people to pull carts and manual vehicles. Horse is also a symbol of pride for the individuals and people belonging to affluent class keep horse for riding and playing games in the leisure time. Goats and chicken also belong to livestock animals. People nurture these animals mainly to get fresh meat. These animals are available in different varieties and kept in the houses of various sizes. Farm houses of livestock animals are generally constructed in an outside places to keep the human population free from cattle borne diseases. Management of cattle farm houses is also quite imperative for proper growth and health condition of farm animals.

Government and private agencies employ veterinary doctors to do regular health check-ups of the farm animals. Goat farming is gaining importance all over the world. For the past many years, scientists and genetics engineers from all over the world have been involved in making new goat breeds for high milk and meat production. There are different goat breeds available now a-day such as Sirohi and Bore. Many people also rear goats as pets. Sheep farming is also gaining popularity in various regions of the world. Sheep is a commercial animal as its fibers are used for production of wool. Among all sheeps, male sheeps are known for their tall height and muscular body.
