Important Equipment For Pilots
If you are a pilot or perhaps even training to be one
, there is a lot of equipment you will need to buy sooner or later and the cost can be quite exorbitant unless you find the best deals and try to make savings where you can. This is particularly necessary if you are just starting out as a trainee pilot as you will soon find that it is an upward financial battle to be able to afford all the necessary training manuals, flight school fees and other attendant costs. However, as a new trainee pilot there are some things which are essential and others which, if you can afford them, are certainly a good idea to invest in. Indeed, sooner or later you will probably need to buy them anyway, so being prepared and having the right equipment can make things a lot easier.
The most fundamental necessities are a flight computer (essentially a moveable solid-sate gauge that looks like a glorified protractor), the flight charts for your local area, a logbook, flight case and pilot headsets. The latter is only really necessary if you are hiring an aircraft from a local airport and are asked to supply your own pilot headsets as part of their operational etiquette. However, many landing schools will supply you with pilot headsets and, in some cases, other necessary equipment. That notwithstanding, it is still useful to have your own for future use and indeed, you are more likely to prefer working with equipment if it is your own.
Other things that are useful include kneeboards for ease of reference to notes whilst you are flying and VFR flight guides for a comprehensive listing of all radio frequencies. Of course, it is not necessary that you buy all of this at the outset of your training, but they are certainly worth bearing in mind for your wish list as you develop and progress. Pilot shops can be found both online and at some specialist outlets and tend to offer a vast array of pilot equipment, from training manuals to pilots clothing. Indeed, training manuals are also a good investment as they will often help supplement what you learn in flight school as well as some of the principles and explanations that do not otherwise get covered in great enough depth.
Heading online to find pilot supplies will give you a good idea of the breadth of what is available, as well as helping you find items at the very best prices. Pilot equipment can be expensive, so take the time to shop around to find the best prices.
