Important Tips To Remember During Emergency Light Testing
Imagine a sudden brownout and you find your emergency light not working
, why is it always broken when you need it the most? Your emergency light could be your life saver but without proper maintenance and regular checking it would be useless to even put one in your home or office. Never expect an emergency light to work perfectly especially if you still havent used it after hanging it in that ceiling of yours. Just like any appliance, they get rustic and may not even work if not used for a long period of time.
So how does an emergency light work? An emergency light is plugged on an electrical socket, and if the power goes out, it automatically goes on. Never wait for a catastrophe to strike before you even know that your emergency light isnt working. As much as possible check it once in a while to see if it is still working. Here are some tips to remember during emergency light testing.
Check the light bulbs
The light bulbs are the most important part of an emergency light and they should be checked at a regular basis, once a week at least to make sure that they arent busted when you need them the most. A lot or emergency light models would have a push to test button. This is the button used to test if your emergency light is working perfectly. If you want to test them you simply have to press this button for a full thirty minutes. The light should be on for the whole thirty minutes without even blinking. See if the bulbs are still bright just like the first time you bought them; if they flicker or dim out a little, then its time to replace them. Dont wait for it to go out completely. Always change them at the first sign of dimness.
Change batteries if needed
Aside from the bulbs, the batteries should also be checked. When the power goes off, the battery starts to work. Always make sure that the batteries are changed at a regular basis especially when there are frequent brownouts in your area. Dimmer light bulbs and longer response time are signs that the batteries should be changed immediately. If you fail to test your emergency lights regularly or fail to use them at all, your batteries could go to waste and might not even work.
Use a separate circuit breaker
Just to keep things safe, whether you are doing your regular microwave testing or environmental testing, and especially when doing your emergency light testing it is important to use a separate circuit breaker. This is done to keep things safe especially if testing a large number of emergency lights.
