Improving Accuracy With Laser Scanning Equipment
There was a time when various industries and professions utilize mechanical instruments to measure the different facets of an object
. Mechanical devices such as the bubble level, center and fish gauges, machinist square, and calipers, are just a few of the instruments you normally see in a manufacturing plant. Though they do serve their purpose, most of them do not really represent an accurate representation of an objects measurement.
Recent advances in modern technology, however, enabled lasers to be used in obtaining measurements from an object. This paved the way for the development of various laser scanning equipment for use in inspecting the dimensions of an object to see if they have correct measurements.
As you well know, manufacturing companies nowadays use Computer Aided Design software to create a 3D model of their products. The measurements on that 3D model become their basis when checking the dimensions of an actual product. The dimensions of the actual object would now be subjected to inspection to see if they match the measurements of the 3D model. If the laser measurement device discovers any imperfection, such flaws are applied to the 3D model and a computer simulation will be performed. Doing so would determine the imperfection tolerance rate. The inspection team would now have a basis on how to ascertain if the product is a near-perfect match of the 3D model.
How would this benefit the company? In a manufacturing firm, uniformity of design and dimension of a product is of paramount importance. Any imperfection that is beyond tolerable levels will hamper the operation of an assembly where the product will be used. While it is true that there will always be imperfections to some degree, continued use of the same machines used to fabricate that product will lead to wear and tear, which eventually will affect the object it produces. Using laser
laser measurement equipment to inspect the object produced, helps monitor the quality of the machine used in producing such object.
There are also instances where
laser measurement equipment is used to determine the objects alignment. The data returned will then help the inspection personnel to immediately make the necessary corrections on the alignment. As long as the produced objects alignment is within acceptable levels, then it will be certified okay by inspection teams.
Laser measurement equipment has brought so many changes to the production process of a manufacturing company. It helps in monitoring the quality of the product, and at the same time, the condition of the production equipment used to fabricate the product. It has proved its tremendous value that it is hard to imagine what will happen if manufacturing companies do not have them.
