Improving Your Employee Motivation

One of the key characteristics to employee motivation and self-motivation is finding out and knowing what our strengths and weaknesses are

. In this article I will highlight some of the ways we can work together, as employers and employees, to uncover the hidden motivation inside all of us.

One of the main causes for discouragement in the work place is misuse of talent. If someone is more successful doing things their own way, but is constantly forced to do things within the parameters set forth by their employer, the results can be disastrous. A strong leader will be able to identify an employee's strengths and work with them to help them achieve set tasks. By using online resources, like E.Q. (Emotional Intelligence) and Multiple Intelligence tests, an employer may find the working strengths of their employees and allow for differentiation within the workplace. This will result in higher quality work and a motivated employee!

Remember that setting up a work environment that is conducive to the strengths of your employees will only benefit your company. Allowing employees to be successful is a major part of any thriving business. If the tasks you set are within reach for each employee, daily successes will only increase their motivation and keep your business productive. The alternative is to have unsatisfied employees that feel like they are failing you. In reality, they have not been set to a task that exploits their individual strengths, and therefore feel that their job is beyond their capabilities.

Devise an employee responsibility chart that highlights the employee's talents and can be used to guide said employee to success. An easy way to do this is to look at the employees daily responsibilities and set tasks that utilize the employee's talents. This can be researched and implemented by having the employee fill out an E.Q or Multiple Intelligence test and utilizing those results. These tests are specifically designed to highlight an employee's strengths. A successful employee represents a successful business!

Have the employee reflect upon the successful task they have completed, and have the employee put into words why they think they were successful within this task. Reflection is an important part of any learning curve. We learn just as much from our mistakes as we do from our successes. Reflections will also help you as an employer create a team that will work efficiently and productively.

Overall, the best way to motivate your employees is to create a working relationship that exploits their talents, while providing them with an opportunity to become a successful part of your company. As the companies leader it is up to you to devise methods that will ensure every employee is being used to their full potential. Many employers forget that the reason they have ultimately been successful is because they have been allowed to use their own talents throughout their career. If you plan and implement a process by which you can utilize your employee's talents - the sky is truly the limit!
