Many of us have read about SWOT analysis in our high school. Right now, SWOT analysis may sound childish to you but when I tell you how it can benefit you, you'd be truly amazed. This article is going to revive the high school memories (the lecture memories only) by explaining what SWOT analysis is, how you can carry it out and how it is going to enhance the traffic building opportunities for you. It's like a different perspective on the traffic building idea. A truly different perspective. Let's discover what it is, how it works.

So, for those of you who aren't already familiar with what SWOT analysis is, I'd like to give a brief introduction. SWOT analysis is the analysis of any entity's or human's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Let me guide you practically. Take a pencil and a paper. Draw a big square on the paper. Divide the square into two equal rows and columns and label them S, W, O, T. S and W should be on 1st row while O and T should be in the 2nd row. When you jot down the SWOTs, you have to work on the strategies for changing your weaknesses to strengths and your threats to opportunities. Confusing as it may sound but you can't get traffic until you know exactly what you are, where you stand and what your reputation is in the mind of the targeted web traffic out there.

To increase traffic to your website you need to know the following things:

Why do you have the web traffic that you have? What is one reason that your existing web traffic is consistently coming to you? However small number that may be, trust me, it still matters. Find out why are they attracted to you and consider it a major strength along with the others that you figure out for your website.

Do you have as much web traffic as your competitors? If yes, then what can you do to have "that" competitive edge. If no, then what is it that they are offering and you are not? When you figure that out consider that as a major weakness along with the others that you figure out for your website.

Are there any new entrants coming into the industry to compete with you? If there are, list them as your major threats.

Think of ways that you can enhance your business. Examples might be associating a news page to your website, offering a blog full of information about the industry you are operational in or may be also provide videos. List these as your major opportunities. Think of more. More opportunities will get more traffic for your website.

When you want to increase traffic you have to know that the process doesn't stop at just the analysis. You need to work further. To get traffic you need to make use of the opportunities and strategize your plan in such a way that you can work on your weaknesses to turn them into strengths of your website.
