Computer Program

The are two types of computer programs or software- system soft ware and application software. System soft ware is for the proper functioning of computer and application soft ware is for different user applications.

Languages are mainly classified into low-level languages and high level languages. Low-level languages are closer to the language used by a computer, while high-level languages are closer to human languages.

There are many programming languages -- C, C++, Pascal, BASIC, FORTRAN, Java, Visal Basic, COBOL, and LISP are some high level languages. One can also write programs in low-level languages called assembly languages, although this is more difficult. Every program must be translated into a machine language that the computer can understand. This translation is performed by compilers, interpreters, and assemblers.
