Infrared Saunas: Spotlight On Safety Issues
Nobody in their right mind would want to get dosed with radiation
. Particularly with all the things that are known about it today. It can cause sickness and even death in high doses, and even minor amounts can lead to a host of lingering health issues that can last a lifetime. So then what about the latest trend in infrared saunas that replace steam with infrared radiation? Who in their right mind would buy one, bring it into their home and then climb into it?
The simple answer here, is that a whole heckuva lot of people are doing it, and in fact the infrared sauna is fast replacing the steam sauna as the number one choice for people who want to bring one into their own. So is it at all dangerous? The answer here, is "absolutely not" because what you have to understand is that the word radiation is not confined solely to nuclear radiation. It's simply a word to describe anything that moves out and away from a point. So yes some types are dangerous, but light bulb rate also "radiates" light waves.
On the other hand nuclear radiation, of the type that's used to power nuclear power plants, and x-ray machines is dangerous, and should be avoided. It's caused by the breaking down of molecules into their core components that then emanate out. If they encounter your body it can cause damage to DNA. So there's no two ways about it, and that is that of all the various types this is by far perhaps the most dangerous.
Infrared radiation on the other hand, is very benign, and in fact you've been encountering it and using it all along. For instance the last time that you stood by a campfire and felt the warmth on your skin, it was infrared radiation that you are feeling. Then if you have ever turned on an electric stove, and felt the heat coming off of it, that also was infrared radiation. In fact the warmth from any glowing red hot object is caused by infrared rays.
So even though this type of new state-of-the-art sauna has that "often dreaded word" in its name, it's perfectly safe. So safe in fact That an increasing number of medical professionals who specialize in the treatment of chronic pain issues are now prescribing it to their patients for pain relief. Steam you see, can only heat the "skin surface" on contact. Infrared rays, on the other hand, have the capacity to penetrate beyond the skin, and go deep into muscle and connective tissue for immediate relief.
As a matter of fact, as it pertains to safety issues and saunas, steam holds the record for being the most dangerous by far. Every year people are harmed, and even killed while basking in a common steam sauna and they're most dangerous when the person using one has consumed alcohol, and or narcotic pain medication. The risk here comes from them been overcome by the heat due to their diminished state, passing out, and then suffering from the prostration.
