Insure Yourself Because Youre Worth It
We have all seen those adverts on television as the model flicks his or her hair
while flashing you a gorgeous faultless smile and the voice over delivers the catch phrase because youre worth it.
We agree - you are worth it!
What is more, your family, if you have one, is worth it too, so why not spend a few minutes, which is the time it would take to read this article and think about your worth.
Because Youre Worth It
The adverts were the brainchild of LOreal, a globally recognisable name in the beauty and cosmetics industry and were used to promote hair colour, skin care products and other cosmetics. Over time, the campaign changed, from Because Im worth it to Because youre worth it and now Because were worth it as they branch wider product lines.
You may not think too much about the product or the slogan when you see the advert on television, but regardless of whether or not you buy those particular products, internally you are likely to agree with the sentiment.
It is a positive affirmation and hearing it makes us feel good about ourselves. Which for the company translates into sales when you are wandering around the shops, spot the item and recall the slogan and feel a little better about yourself, prompting you (maybe) to buy it?
But product and advertising tactics aside, if you are worth the investment each month, for hair colour, skin protection and to make yourself look beautiful, then you are surely worth insuring?
After all there is no other you!
Why is Underinsurance a Problem?
Many experts spend a lot of time examining why so many Australians are underinsured, but the answer is often really simple, personal insurance is just not beautiful or sexy! More specifically it usually boils down to one of the following excuses:
I am young and healthy, and frankly to be honest, thinking about insurance is just morbid.
It is too expensive, I just cant afford insurance at the moment.
Buying insurance is so empty, I would rather get something for my money.
Of course, I could easily fill this page with the different reasons people have provided to justify why insurance is just not right for them.
My response, insurance is only not right for you if you are extremely financially secure with other investments and sadly not many of us fit this category. So while it seems that insurance is not right because you are young, or because it is expensive or because it shows you nothing today, it could be the thing that provides you with a quality of life when you no longer care about what colour your hair is.
The Point
Humour me, and spend just a few moments to consider how you would survive should something unforeseen happen to you today, something you couldnt prepare for or couldnt avoid. How are you going to survive?
There is a range of different insurance options in Australia, including:
Life insurance which provides for your family in the event of your death.
Total and permanent disability (TPD) insurance which will provide a lump sum dollar benefit if you should become totally and permanently disabled and therefore no longer able to work.
Trauma insurance which will provide a lump sum benefit if you are diagnosed with a specific defined illness.
Income protection insurance which will provide you up to 75% of your pre-disablement income in the form of a monthly benefit for a limited period (and in some cases until you are 65 years old).
It is recommend you have comprehensive cover, which means the right amount of all of these, but even if you cant face that just yet, at least get some.
Insurance is no longer difficult and expensive to obtain, cheap life insurance, TPD, trauma insurance and income protection is possible to find. In Australia an online insurance broker will be able to provide you with an online insurance quote of all the major Australian insurance companies and a comparison of the results in just a few minutes.
So what are you waiting for? Because (well, you know what we are going to say) youre worth it!
