Integrated Model—A learning resource for Visually Impaired

Integrated ModelA learning resource for Visually Impaired

Theoretical base of the model

The ITM model was developed by Suchman. He believed that people inquire when they are puzzled. Cooperative inquiry enriches thinking. Another model is SRM which is effective for learning to relax and reduce anxiety. Its procedure is applicable to many educational settings. Stress reduction model proposed by Joseph Wolph. He developed a set of procedure to help people substitute pattern of relaxation. When a person feels anxious he or she got physical tension. To gain control over anxiety people can learn to reduce muscle tension by systematically relaxing the primary muscles of their body

Rational of the Model

A new model has been introduced in the area of special education, especially for VI students. Concerned with VI students they have good listening skill, their hearing concentration is powerful. Verbal communication is an effective medium for VI to clear their doubts. If they have any problem they solve of its own by inquiry. Integrated model designed to develop inquiry approach and creative thinking. When we present some puzzling event to VI person naturally they inquire and they become conscious about the problem and learn to analyze their thinking process by asking question.

Integrated model is also provides an effective method for learning to relax and reduce stress factor. Relaxation technique facilitates productive and creative functioning and it is comfortable for learning.

If we create relax and stress free environment while teaching and learning of science for VI students, it will helpful for the meaningful learning of science. When the VI students feel relax they can easily interact with their teacher and they can ask as many as question.

For the better inquiry children need condition of freedom and responsive environment and relaxed atmosphere in classroom. Integrated model provide such type of environment in the classroom which is useful for the better learning.

Role Of the Teacher

The teacher role in this model is to creates environment and setting the stage for relaxation of the students.

Teacher selects the problem situation that is preparation of discrepant event for inquiry process.

To refry the inquiry according to inquiry procedure.

Respond to student inquiry probes with the necessary information.

To facilitate discussion of the problem situation among the student.

Teacher also acts as a recorder, keeping track of the inquiry by recording theories and types of question.

When teacher noticed the student are not enthusiastically participate in the inquiry process, he can use some relaxation technique for maintain the flow and pace of the inquiry.

Teacher is cautioned to let the students take the initiative. Inquiring involve risk taking and some individual will withdraw in silence at first. Eventually when they are ready they will become active participants.

Teacher successfully creates such environment by warming and transitions that student become more comfortable in inquiry process.

A next suggestion is for teacher to model the inquiry process by proposing a theory and then generating and answering yes & no question to test it.

The teacher should begin to teach the terminology of inquiry and suggest subsequent steps. That is interesting theory: how would you go about testing it? When a student's verbal experiment verifies condition, these processes should be identified. "Are there any more object you suggest? Is there any more condition you want to explore? Gradually the teacher indirectly helps the student to learn terminology and they become familiar with the language of inquiry.

In integrated model the teacher has the role of perceiving an open intellectual climate that encourages mutual inquiry.

On the wind up phase teacher should take the feedback of students and keep the record.

Students role in integrated model

Students are actively participated and raised question

Student act as questionnaire

Students should follow the teacher's instruction in relaxation technique.

Student gives feedback at the end of the session.
