International business and corporate social responsibility

International business is quite a vast study with continuous trends in the business environment, most recent known as the "global village" due to innovation in technologies creating on-line communities and businesses outsourcing their operations. Corporate social responsibility from my perspective is "good working practice". This programme embraces dynamism and diversity beneficial to individuals across the world with passion to embark on the journey of IB and CSR. A popular definition for IB is the commercial transaction between two or more countries. My aim is to achieve an advanced understanding of the global business world in terms of corporate culture, trade barriers, economic policy, political systems, competitive strategies and international trading standards. I believe that these factors are some of the constituent for a successful international trade. This would endeavour my ability to deliver global business services to my home country (The Gambia). Gambia is a small country in West Africa with few natural resources and a high dependency on peanuts export. International business and corporate social responsibility is an important choice because most companies are now international companies and would like to have a better career and to support the best government policies in Gambia. As a general not, the shortages in The Gambia currently are the used of advanced resources to meet international business standards for example on-line business. This programme would enable me create a channel of network that would increase the presence of on-line business for the Gambian people with others across the world. A report by UN (2010) declared water shortages in some developing countries including Gambia, however, the country can attract foreign investment due to its stable constitutional regime that guarantees fundamental liberties and rights. The Gambia is also committed to free market economy and an open society. Nevertheless, there are also shortages of highly skilled labour force. This issue can be addressed through investment in education and offering scholarships to potential students especially from the less privileged home, although there are some scholarships available but mostly for science subjects.

The skills I seek from my proposed study are: global business etiquette that is how business practices should be done in different countries. This should involve cultural differences, language and codes of practice. Furthermore, how to manage cross-cultural differences at interpersonal level, how organisations can compete in the competitive environment and their CSR to the environment in which they operate in. However, I believe that there are other skills required in order to develop and maintain a successful career in IB. Some of which are the ability to be creative and adapt to other cultures. What's more, willingness to take risks, ability to learn, flexibility in terms of language, initiative and excellent interpersonal skills. I believe that I possess all of this skills but I am willing to improve on them and learn new skills.
