Internet Marketing - The Truth You May Not Want To Hear
I am going to be brutally honest with you ..
I am going to be brutally honest with you ... no promises, no bs ... just plain simple truth. When it comes to marketing your small business, you really need to stop believing what all the "top internet marketers" tell you to do and start educating yourself.Promoting and running a small business is NOT easy ... it's a lot more difficult than you can imagine. Sure there are businesses that start up and take off within a few months, but those are very few and far between. For the average small business entrepreneur, there is a lot of hard work, long hours, learning, testing, "failing" and trying again. Most first time entrepreneurs, begin marketing their business by:1. Placing an ad in their local paper2. Distributing flyers in their neighbourhoodAnd guess which one of those strategies works the best??? In most cases neither! And do you want to know why? Because unless a person reading the newspaper or flyer is looking for that particular service/product in that moment, they are going toss the ad straight in the bin. Don't believe me? Think about how many newspaper ads you've cut out recently and how many flyers you have kept for future reference. If you've been in business for a while, no doubt you have come across people who have promised to promote your business and some may have even promised certain results. But did they deliver them? My guess is the answer is "no".Unfortunately most people experience this ... they hand their hard earned money to marketers who promise to make their business an overnight success ... and when that doesn't happen, the business owners are discouraged and blame the marketing company for "ripping them off".The main problem here is the marketing companies often over-promises and under-delivers. Even if they do deliver decent results, in most cases, the business owner has very high expectations ... either of their own doing or as a result of the marketing company's glossy brochures. If you have found a company who is delivering good return on your investment, stick with them, until such time you are not getting results. You need to stop blaming others for not delivering the results YOU expected. If something doesn't work out, after you've given it a fair try, move on. Don't throw more money at it, thinking it will get better. If it doesn't work for you (even though it is working for your competitor), it doesn't work. Don't over-analyse it and get on with it - there are so many other things you can try.I can't tell you how many times I've heard:I don't have time to 'do that',I have to run the business and need to take care of everything,I have a family to look after,My spouse doesn't support me,My elderly parents need help,English is not my first language.... yes I hear you ... we all have something that keeps us busy.In most cases, people use such excuses not because they don't have time to do their marketing, but because they really don't know what to do and even if they do, they are afraid they will fail.Give things a go ... so what if you mess up ... you will learn an awful lot about business, about yourself and about other people and who knows you may even have some fun in the process.Forget about doing things the way you have always done them and because others in your industry are doing them. Follow your instinct. If, for example writing articles (no matter how scary that may seem right now) FEELS like a great marketing strategy for your business, you owe it to yourself to learn as much as you can. Don't dismiss it because you don't know how it works and because you think you can't write. So if you are wondering what you should do now... pick up a book or an ebook about internet marketing and start reading and testing different marketing strategies... there are loads available online or in your local bookstore. Internet trends and technology are changing so quickly that if you don't plug in at least a little bit you will be left standing behind, wondering what happened. If you have read until the end of this article ... congratulations ... I know I may have touched a few nerves. The truth is I want your business to succeed and promising you something that is unrealistic is not going to help you.Internet Marketing - The Truth You May Not Want To HearBy: Ivana Katz
