Introduce Education To Help Prevent Poverty

These days, it seems that as the rich keep getting richer, the poor are still getting poorer. Third world nations are most affected by poverty, a condition characterized by severe deprivation of basic human needs, including food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter, and education. And though the world produces enough food to feed all inhabitants, impoverished people in the developing world cannot afford it and some don't even have access to it. People are going hungry, and poverty is the principal cause of this hunger. It is becoming more and more evident that the key to help prevent poverty is education, across all sectors of humanity.

It is well known that no country can succeed if its citizens are not educated. While education can help prevent poverty, it is also a key to creating wealth. Impoverished children are usually less healthy, their language skills less developed, and they are usually socially, emotionally and physically unable to go to school. What schools that do exist usually require fees that are above the average family's income. Less than half of Africa's school-aged children will ever get to see the inside of existing learning facilities. Without the funding and resources needed, children will continue to grow-up and become another statistic of poverty. On the flip-side, children who do receive education can get better-paying jobs, have better access to nutrition, are better able to prevent illness and combat abuse, and in turn, are more likely to educate their own children. This spreads to that child's family and community, effectively helping to prevent poverty.

Global poverty is an issue that we face every day, wherever we live. When most of us think of poor people, we picture that little child living in impossible living conditions in a village in southern Africa, crying. More and more groups are cropping up to help prevent poverty around the world, not only in the United States. They are taking steps to solve hunger problems by educating those affected on how to grow their own food, sanitize utensils to prevent illness and even identifying employment opportunities to help parents provide food for their children. New schools are being built to educate young children, successfully planting the seeds to grow a self-sustaining community in which they live. But though this new knowledge can only solve some problems, many more problems exist for Africa's people. Education is just a small step towards their sustainable future.
