Reserve bank of India has permitted them to invest in Government securities or Units of UTI. They are allowed to do this directly or through authorised dealers. They can invest in national savings securities but not in other certifications such as the bearer securities. These bearer securities include Kisan vikas patra and Indira vikas patra.
If you are ready to take the risk, then you can invest in mutual funds. Adequate knowledge about the industry is essential before you consider this option. The same principle applies to shares as well. You must first check out the stability of the shares and consider it only if it is doing well. It is quite risky to consider those which have been badly affected with market fluctuations. Real estate investment in India is also not a bad idea. These are not subject to the market risks to the extent that shares get affected. Return on capital in case of real estate is also high in comparision to share market.
