. Typically, bluebirds use holes that have either been carved in trees by another bird or hollowed out rotting trees for their homes every year. If you would like to see some bluebirds in your backyard this year, you might like to invite summer guest by putting up bluebird houses.

Most bluebirds live in the rural and country areas because they can readily find insects to eat. With so many trees cut down in the city, it is not suitable for the bluebirds.

You can find a house for bluebirds in an outdoor store or home store. They are not very expensive, depending on the type of wood used and how easily it is to clean. You might decide to get a book and find a pattern and make your own house. Be sure you read about putting up these kinds of houses and not just any birdhouse. They like a certain size and entrance hole.

When you hang your houses for the bluebirds, make sure there is a clear sight to the ground from the perch. Bluebirds generally like to hunt from a perch and fly down to grab insects as they see them. The ideal place would be in the middle of the yard away from wooded areas or large buildings such as sheds or barns. Furthermore, bluebirds tend to be territorial so when you invite these summer guest by putting up houses you need to take into consideration the nesting areas. If you plan to hang multiple houses, make sure they are several hundred yards apart if possible. If you have two houses too close together, the second one may remain vacant for the rest of the year.

You will probably get 2 to 3 nesting a year depending on your location. Monitor your birdhouse and as soon as you see the bluebirds no longer going in and out you should immediately clean out the nest. It is best if you put the nest in a plastic bag and discard it into a trash can. Then wash out the nest box and clean to get rid of left over poop or parasites. Leave the door propped open until it dries. You should have another nesting soon. You will probably have the same pair. You are kind of like a landlord preparing for new tenants. You want your guest to be happy campers. Your efforts will be well rewarded. Bluebirds are amazing creatures to watch go about their daily life, and bluebird houses are just the thing to attract them.
