Is A Ged High School Diploma As Good As A Regular High School Diploma?
Many students spend years in school studying for their high school diploma
, while others sit down and take several exams in one day. This second method is how you can quickly earn your GED high school diploma. Many people are asking though, if a GED has the same value as a diploma earned over several years. The answer yes.
You have to be eligible to take the GED exam, this includes not being enrolled in high school. You must be over sixteen years old and have never received your diploma. To earn your GED you must take five exams in different subjects and pass with at least 60%.
You are not required to take any registered study classes before sitting for the exam. The exams take about seven hours to complete, and it is advisable to study beforehand.
Once you have your GED and are applying for a job your employer will most likely see your GED in the same light as a regular diploma. Normally the area where this changes is when you are applying to a college or university. Acceptance into a community college will normally be granted by showing your GED. There are some employers that do not consider the GED to be as valuable, and this might cause you some problems. Any college in the United States will perceive your GED just as valuable as a normal diploma.
Universities can also be another area for concern. It will depend upon the course you are applying for, and if the five subjects you have studied are considered relevant. Sometimes you might have to take an entrance exam to gain acceptance.
If you have received your diploma as a mature student, you still may not make it into college. You are competing with numerous other students, and those with the highest grades are normally accepted first.
