Is A Plateau Killing All Your Motivation?
A big plateau can singlehandedly destroy your motivation to keep on getting in shape
. After all, nobody wants to work at something only to notice that they aren't getting any results.
Unfortunately, many people do not know how to pull themselves out of a plateau.
So here are 6 ways to get yourself out of a plateau:
1. Stop having cheat meals: And if you are having cheat days, eliminate them as well. The notion that you can accelerate fat loss by having cheat meals or cheat days is absurd. If you want to lose weight you will have to make up for this caloric surplus elsewhere in your diet.
2. Ramp up your vegetable intake: This is the simplest, yet most effective thing you can do to speed up weight loss. You see, vegetables stabilize blood sugar while simultaneously decreasing hunger. And the best thing here is that they don't have a significant amount of calories.
3. Reduce rest periods: Making your rest periods shorter during your workouts is a great way to increase the metabolic demand of your exercise. This in turn will help you burn more calories. And more calories burned will translate into more fat loss.
4. Increase NEPA a lot: Non exercise physical activity is a great way to burn calories without stressing your body, unlike intense exercise. Theoretically, you should be able to do lots of NEPA with minimal impact on your body. Even better, it will help you recover quicker from your intense exercise.
5. Keep track of what you are eating: This is critical so that you can avoid any caloric creep in your diet. Most people that can't get out of a plateau have calories coming into their diet and they can't identify the source. So make sure you begin keeping a log here.
6. If all else fails measure and weigh everything you eat: The good news is that you can't falter with this approach, the bad news is that it can be very tedious. You shouldn't have to do this indefinitely, however. Once you start losing weight again you'll know how much you can eat while still losing weight.
Plateaus are extremely de-motivating. And if you are stuck in a plateau it's vital that you act on this information sooner rather than later!
