. When you think about Avon, dont old ladies selling perfume and lotion come to mind? In addition to selling make up, lotions, jewelry and clothing, Avon representatives get paid to sign you up as well.

Before we condemn Avon for being an MLM we have to know exactly what an MLM is. First of all MLM stands for Multi-Level Marketing, which means that you can make money on more than one level. This means that you are compensated when you personally make a sale of the company products, AND you are compensated for the sales of other promoters, creating a downline of distributors and multiple levels of compensation in the form of a pyramid, which is where the term pyramid scam comes from.

If Avon pays on multiple levels its a good thing right? Yes and I completely agree with that way of networking but some people dont because when youre selling Avon products the one who stands to gain the most is Avon. Then when somebody fails to meet their expectations, they blame someone else. They blame the company, they blame their mom, they blame the economy, and they say it was a scam. The reason MLM and Network Marketing businesses are so heavily criticized is because of peoples own laziness and lack of commitment.

Here is how Avon works, they give you the opportunity to become your own boss. You join the company, they offer you some products to sell AND they also give you catalogues to sell their products from. Simple right? Wrong! Remember you are your own boss and you are in the sales business and you have to know how to sell the products that you have. I can give you 100 gold watches but that wont get you anywhere if you dont know how to sell watches. First you would have to target people that like jewelry, Second you would have to find people that like to wear watches and keep track of what time it is, Third and most importantly you have to offer people value and inform them on what they are buying and have the ability to assure people that they are buying a quality product.

To answer your question, Yes Avon is a MLM business. Is that necessarily a bad thing? No its not, its actually a good thing. In my opinion Avon is an absolutely great business opportunity. They give you the opportunity to become your own boss, work your own hours, and make money off of THEIR products.
