English grammar is a set of rules that specify how meanings are created in English

. Grammar falls into two distinct groups. The descriptive describes the styles of how meanings are shaped in functional speech and writing. The prescriptive describes the pre-existing rules as to how meanings are created.

English grammar is said to be one of the most difficult to learn and understand. This is because there are so many exceptions to the rules. English grammar is viewed from a linguistic perspective. This makes understanding the dialect of everyday speech very different from that of formal writing. Through slang into the mix of things, and it is easy to see why the English grammar is hard to master. While most slang is not considered standard, it can become such an integrated part of a culture that if seems like proper grammar to that population. This is often an eye opener for students who leave their area to attend college.

Nouns describe people, places, things, and abstract ideas. Verbs are used to clarify the sentence. Verb tenses make English grammar difficult for people who do not grow up speaking and writing it. Most people have no problem with simple sentence structure. However, issues such as mine and thine, whom and who can really be difficult to understand. The English language is much easier to understand then it is to write down properly.

For additional help many people find a dictionary and thesaurus to be helpful. A dictionary helps find the proper spelling as well as a description of the word. The thesaurus expands the English language by introducing other words with similar meanings. It is helpful when you're trying to add clarity and color to your writings rather than using the same word over and over again. Another great source of information on grammar is the computer. You can have it pronounce words for you. There are also free sites that allow you to translate from one language to another. Even typing papers and reports is easier on the computer. Most programs have grammar check and spell check. It will tell you if sentence structure is wrong as well as offer possible solutions to make it work better.
