Is Custom Acoustic Liposuction Right For Me?
Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the world
. It has been the number one most commonly performed procedure in the United States for twelve out of the past thirteen years. Last year, over 300,000 liposuctions were performed in the United States alone.
However, liposuction isn't just a procedure; it's a field. Since its invention in the late 70's, a myriad of different techniques and methods have arisen, all for the purpose of removing excess body fat through suction.
Some methods use lasers, others use ultrasonic waves, some simply use pressurized jets of water. One of the newest, called Custom Acoustic Liposuction (also called CAL), uses infrasonic sound waves to help break up the fat before it is removed from the body. Even though it's so new--it only received FDA clearance earlier this year--a number of doctors are turning to Custom Acoustic Liposuction. This article will explain how this new procedure works and will better acquaint readers with its results.
All liposuction is performed with small hollow tubes called cannulas. These tubes are inserted through incisions in the skin into the fatty tissue beneath. Once inserted into the fatty tissue, the cannula is moved forward and backward by the surgeon, breaking up and suctioning fat as it goes.
The cannula used in CAL is unique, because it moves in a unique three-dimensional pattern called nutational vibration. It moves at a relatively slow speed which some experts claim is designed especially to avoid stimulating pain nerves.
This unique vibrational motion makes it easier for the cannula to glide through the tissue, which minimizes pain during the early stages of the procedure, when the anesthesia is still being introduced into the system. It is estimated that CAL is able to get the tumescent fluid used during surgery into the body 25% faster than most of its competitors.
The unique nutational motion also minimizes patient trauma at later parts of the surgery, which means less bruising. The gliding motion also makes it easier to move through difficult areas of fat, such as the flanks, the male breast and even areas that have previously received liposuction
The Custom Acoustic system includes a number of different shapes, sizes and designs of cannulas, which makes it easier for doctors to custom tailor the liposuction to the specific parts of a client's body, making it easier to achieve aesthetically pleasing results.
CAL also has a great safety-feature. The cannula can detect tissue density, and it shuts off it begins to approach non-fatty tissues such as muscle or skin.
While it is still new, and some research still needs to be done, it is quite possible that Custom Acoustic Liposuction is the method of the future.
