Gay adoption is undoubtedly one of the most popular options for childless gay couples
but practically the feasibility of the option is still doubtful.
Same sex or gay adoption can be in various forms like single partner adoption, joint adoption and adoption of the biological child of either one of the partner. Same sex adoption is however not legal on all the countries. If you are looking for adopting a child than make sure that the legal system of your country lets you do so. Out of the total number of countries in the world only fourteen countries have their laws designed in favor of adoption for gay couples. In most of the countries it is banned.
One of the reasons for this could be the unwilling nature of the society to let children be raised up by gay couples. Most of the people believe that when children are brought up in such a scenario then the chances of the child becoming a homosexual increases. Also some feel that same sex couples cannot provide the affection that the child requires from parents of both the sex. However researches have indicated otherwise. Many of the children who were brought up by gay or same sex couples were as adjustable or normal as those raised by heterosexual couples. In no way was the heath or the psychological well being of the child affected after being raised by homosexual couples which is contrary to the popular belief.
Many adopting agencies deny adoption to gay couples. The reasons cited above are applicable in this case as well. The authorities of the various adopting agencies fear that the child might not be able to have a normal upbringing thus they deny gay adoption. One should realize that the parent's sexual orientation has nothing to do with the person's parenting skills. However this is only said not practiced which is evident from the difficulties that a same sex (gay) couple has to go through for the adoption process.
As gay adoption is still an eyebrow raising concept other methods which could let such couples to enjoy parenting had to be found out. Surrogacy is a good option for gay couples who have made a lot of unsuccessful attempts at adoption. For gay couples this method comes as a relief as most of them surely might have tried their hands at adoption. Also it is certain that much of the efforts must have gone in vain. With gay adoption being so problematic it is advised to opt for other methods through which the dream of becoming parents can be transformed into reality.
