Is In-house Training Good For Team Building?
Ask a business owner what makes a good lawyer and you'll probably get answers that
include qualities such as a good working knowledge of the Law, someone who is not afraid to undergo further legal training to keep that knowledge current, and someone whose reputation for successes generates new custom via word of mouth.
Skills and Character.
Ask a business owner what makes an effective team of personal injury lawyers and you'll probably get answers that include qualities such as adaptability, initiative, the ability to co-operate with team members, and the ability to empathise with clients.
The first set of answers identifies the skill sets an individual needs to work in the legal profession. These can be measured through qualification and performance and can be supported with extra personal injury training. The second set of answers, however, is slightly harder to pin down. These are qualities of character and attitude that help a collection of individuals 'gel' as a fully functioning, cohesive unit.
Strengths and Weaknesses.
The ideal for anyone who runs a legal team is for all those qualities to be present on both individual and collective levels. You need to know that each individual has the skill sets up their sleeves to make informed and educated decisions, whilst being sure that their character is such that you know that they can work with others.
In-house personal injury training is a dynamic way to tackle performance on both these levels. While the mainstay of any in-house legal training is going to be the delivery of important legal information, a good legal trainer will incorporate teambuilding exercises into their seminars. These might not be the hackneyed scenarios of groups deciding whether it's the fox, the chicken or the bag of grain that crosses the river first. Rather, they will be problem-solving scenarios that play on the strengths and weaknesses of your team members and ensure that they reference the information they are learning at the same time.
Professional Unity.
In choosing in-house personal injury training, you must be ready to identify where your team is lacking. It may be that you have virtuosos in the team who perform superbly on their own, but are less able to work with others. Alternatively, you may find that members of a team are not fully aware of the roles played by their colleagues. By passing these observations on to your trainer and asking them to be integrated into the workshop, you will be one step closer to achieving professional unity from your employees.
Relationships within the office can be just as important as learning the latest changes to the Law. A team that functions harmoniously is likely to outperform a team that may have better knowledge but fails to work as a unit. Ultimately, being able to work together communicates the idea to potential clients that their cases will be handled by a group of professionals who use all the reserves offered by each member of that team to achieve a successful outcome. The development of the more esoteric personal skills will ensure that they alleviate any further stress from what may already be a stressful situation.
