The question sometimes comes up - is wind energy renewable or not
? This is a good question and one that bears exploration.
Why does the question is wind energy renewable really matter at all?
These are the main reasons this is a valid question to be asking...
Renewable power is sustainable and will never go away - This is the primary definition what makes renewable energy something worth looking at. Once you make the investment in the power producing equipment, you no longer have to spend money except a little bit of money here and there to maintain the device. The fuel to make the power is supplied by the wind and that will never go away. That is the primary litmus test that any renewable device must pass before it can truly be called sustainable.
Wind energy is clean power - The fact that there is no burning of fuels involved means that no pollution will be created in the process of making the electricity that you use at your home. But wind production is of course extremely clean but it is not entirely clean process from soup to nuts. What I mean by that is we still have to manufacture the parts that are used in the home wind turbine in factories that are using centrally supplied electricity from plants that put out a lot of pollution. We should not let this dissuade us though from making energy from the wind. Because, we have to recognize there will be a downside to any change that we make that positively benefits society in the long run. That is unfortunate but avoidable and a consequence of any change that we might make.
Wind energy makes power where it is used - The original model of making electricity in one central power plant and dispersing it to where it is being used is not the best way to supply power to homes. There is a lot of line loss involved in making power this way. In other words, we have to run a lot of our power generating capability all over the world just to supply the inefficiencies in the system. That is, we must supply way more power than we need in order to compensate for the losses involved in transporting it to the homes where it is eventually used. With wind power, that is no longer the case because the energy will be consumed at your home right where the electricity is manufactured from the home wind turbine.
In conclusion, the question is wind energy renewable is best answered by looking into the definitions of terms surrounding Green energy.
