In case of a mishap nothing could be worse than being cut off. Remember to stack up a good amount of food and water as going out in the snow or fog may be out of the question. Make sure you have all your winter clothes ready and the see that the heater is in good working condition. Also, hot water must be available. Gas and fire supplies also must be in plenty. Purchase some snow tires so that your car does not slip and slide. Tire chains may save your life when driving on snow packed roads. An alternative source of heating is absolutely essential. Batteries, candles and flash lights must be kept handy.

In addition to providing all the necessary gear required for handling the cold, you could also think of spending your time more usefully. Try to have a hobby to indulge in while remaining indoors for a long time. This will help you to cope with the long cold lonely days. Spend your time by finishing up all your leftover chores such as spring cleaning which could give you some warmth. Try to stay busy by watching television and make yourself cozy and warm by using fur and surround yourself with some nice flowers and plants to give your home a nice warm look.
