I've not had a car in a long time, so I've not been paying car insurance

. Back on the road again, it was time to go shopping. The cost was higher for me since I hadn't been insured in a while so I had to go shopping and compare auto insurance rates. Car insurance rates can vary greatly and depend a lot on many factors, some of which can be way beyond your control.

It's the law pretty much every where to have car insurance, but it's such a pain in the butt. I started by phoning all the big name companies that have been around for years. The rates differed quite a bit, but even in phoning I could tell the level of service I could expect varied a lot as well. You get what you pay for!

Each company told me their rates were the lowest, but there were definite variations. The difference between the lowest and highest priced companies was about $250 in total. When you consider you're paying these bills year after year, that's a big chunk of change right there!

A great way to comparison shop is by going online. Try visiting the websites of local and online only insurance companies. A lot of insurance companies can give you a quote without you even having to speak to anyone. All you have to do is fill in some forms and it'll give you an instant answer. This save a lot of time, and was a more pleasurable experience than calling each company individually.

I was finding that since I'd been without insurance for such a long time, rates were quite high for me. Even though I'd never once had a moving violation, they all seemed to have the same reaction when I told them how long it had been since I'd been insured. Even the neighborhood I live in was causing my rates to be higher. I think this is something that might change in the future, but for now, geography has a lot to do with your car insurance rates.

It took about a day of comparison shopping, but I finally found a company that would help me with all my needs and be able give me the coverage required at a decent price. Now I can get back on the road again without worry and feel secure that I'm covered for any eventuality at a good price.
