Jeff Evans is a mixed media artist printmaker and sculptor, working in collage, woodcuts, etchings, engravings, linocuts and clay. Decor Magazine wrote Weaving traditional media and contemporary themes into original compositions of astonishing depth, his pieces start with woodcuts or etchings, collaged, reworked and reincarnated through layering, pasting and rendering in acrylics and oils.
Born in New York City to a Fauvist painter, Jeff Evans studied at Hamilton College, at the National Academy of Fine Arts and at New York Universitys Graduate Division of Fine Arts. He studied printmaking with master printers Bob Blackburn and Krishna Reddy. Extensive travel in the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia and a desire to capture the mood and rhythm of each location greatly influence his work. Evans often seeks out local materials and incorporates their energy into his art, including paint, paper and especially water from Venetian Canals, Indonesian Rice Paddies, Amazonian Mountain Streams and European Rivers.
Twenty-four artists will open their creative spaces to the public to show their work and discuss their creative processes during the Open Your Eyes Studio Tour. The Open Your Eyes tour takes place in the towns of Bantam, Cornwall, Goshen and Warren, on Saturday, June 26 from 10 5 pm and Sunday, June 27 from 10 4 pm and is free to the public. The studio tour is organized by the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council and supported through a grant from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism. The artists include painters, sculptors, photographers, architects, ceramicists, printmakers and woodworkers. For more information about Open Your Eyes Studio Tour go to www.openyoureyestour.org
This event aims to shine a light on the many artists who live, work and contribute so much to our region. The Open Your Eyes Studio Tour recognizes that when the public learns first-hand from the artist about what is involved with the making of a work and the story behind it, a deeper connection and involvement with the art work happens. Were hoping each artist and visitor make those types of lasting connections through this event, said Amy Wynn, Northwest Connecticut Arts Councils executive director.
The Northwest Connecticut Arts Council is a non-profit organization devoted to promoting the arts and cultural resources of northwestern Connecticut. The Council considers that arts and culture are integral contributors to the quality of life in the region. The Council focuses on assisting artists and cultural organizations in their efforts to thrive, and on informing the public, and giving access to the arts across the region.
